Personal space can be an issue for some students. It affects the student's ability to make and keep friends. The social aspect of school is just as important as the academics. After trying different techniques to help this issue my social worker is credited for giving me the answer. Read the book, Personal Space Camp, to your class. After I read it, I felt like the clouds parted and suddenly the sun began to shine down on the subject of personal space. The book explains the issue is such as way that young students understand what it is and it gives the teacher vocabulary to use with your students. I highly recommend this book!

I'm definitely pinning that book! Personal space is always an issue every year. This sounds like a great lesson!

This sounds like a great read aloud. I also had personal space issues in my grade 2/3 class this year. I am pinning this book right now! Thanks

I am going to check that book out! I have really struggled with knowing how to talk about this with the kids so that they have a real understanding.

This book is being added to my first week of lessons. I wish I'd had the opportunity to teach it last year. Some of my students had no concept of personal space.
Our counselor used the book this spring after everyone had become too comfortable with each other and began acting like siblings :) It was a great explanation and the kinders settled back into being friends - with boundaries.
I haven't heard of this book, but I'm definitely going to be using it. Personal space is always an issue every year. Thank you so much for sharing.

This is a fabulous book! I used it last year with my 1st graders and they talked about it all year! Some even used it at home when their siblings were annoying them! Fabulous!

I have used this book for lessons for a few years now. I would recommend it for no younger then 3rd grade. Many of my younger kids didn't get parts of it or make the connections.
Brandyleigh35,
I was teaching 1st grade when my social worker introduced me to this book. She read it to my class because I had a couple of students having trouble with the concept of personal space. It was very helpful with these students. First grade is the youngest students I've used it with, though.
I hope it will help in my very tiny classroom where I have had up to 27 students.
As a School Counselor, this is one of the best books to use to teach personal space. I have used it in grades kindergarten to third. The kids love the book. I bring in hula hoops and bubbles. The kids relate and remember the lessons.
