Back to School Books and a FREEBIE

Do you have a favorite book that you read to your class every year? I love to read the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes.  It is the perfect book for the beginning of the year since we learning everyone's names and this book focuses on names.  I have a couple of freebies for you.

Both of these pages can be used as a "get to know you" activities.  Let students walk around the room and ask new friends to write their name on the first page.  The second page encourages them to ask every student in the classroom their name and the length of it.  Even shy students will be able to participate in this activity. This can be a little noisy so shut your door so you don't disturb your neighbors.

Looking for more Chrysanthemum activities?

Students will shuffle these phrase cards, choose one from each of the different colored piles, and then read the sentence.  The phrase cards will make real and nonsense sentences.

Students will strength their sentence building skills with this "Build It-Write It-Draw It" activity.  Eight assignments are included.

There are three interactive journal printables included.
